Horrible across the board - fees too high, customer service is the worst. They lie about everything
I have been a Webster client for...about 15 years now and although I hear about many horror stories from my family and friends about their experiences with their own personal banks, I have nothing but good things to say about Webster bank. I cannot even count how many times I have overdrafted my account and had the fee's returned to me the next day. The service is speedy and courteous. Any time I had a major concern would needed to go in to speak with their representatives, I am always met with extremely professional care. Although I know they are businessmen at heart, they do a great job of making it seem that your satisfaction is their primary concern. In conclusion I would recommend them over just about any other bank I see no reason not to stay with them forever.
SCAM !! beware from them I lost all my savings to this company, trick me into investing with them hoping for a great return which all turn out to be lies. I feel so much pain when I realized they have no intention of keeping their problems. I am telling you for free to stay far far from here and never engage yourself because it's not worth investing in ; this web should be shut down by the authorities, help prevent others away from this site before they got ripped too and those who're ready victims like myself to contact; nick jover 4 @ gmaiI com to get rightful justice and a refund as well. NOTE : STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.....
About 2 years ago when everyone was issued card with chips, my chip didn’t work from the moment I activated the card. In most places, after some drama about removing and inserting it 3-5 times, you are allowed to swipe. In some places, if the chip doesn’t work you can’t use that card. I called immediately and was told I would be sent a new card. I never got it. I’ve been getting by with swiping my card most of the time until now, when my card is old and worn out and no longer swipes. I called for a replacement card only to be told one was already being sent. I told the woman multiple times that card was sent years ago, I haven’t requested another since then, and I never even received it nor activated it. She kept insisting it wouldn’t be in the system for that long until she eventually contacted someone else who said it was “a hiccup in the system and we pushed another card through” and she assured me I could still use my old card until I got the new one in 5-7 business days and activated it. I went to use the card and it was declined. I called again to get a man who not only did not apologize, but just kept saying “well this shouldn’t happen” as if that helps the situation at all. He told me I was free to apply for the credit card in the mean time or I could go to a branch and get an ATM card. I work 3rd shift and have no choice but to sleep during banking hours or I will not be able to function at my job. It’s been since Saturday evening with no access to my checking account at all, and I didn’t even get so much as an apology from customer service.
Awful. They have a bank product call Brio Direct which borderline scammy. The fine print is full of gotchyas' and bank reps are poorly trained. I have $200k with them in a savings account and have to jump through many hoops to get the money out. Horrible.
I have never had an experience with an online bank worse than Webster. The title of this review should say it all. I honestly regret not visiting this site before opening a savings account with them. Moreover calling their customer service number is a waste of time and even worse is speaking to their very polite but ill informed employees.. And the performance of their website seems like it was designed and implemented by an 8 year old who is not good at games. In two words, stay away.
Just talk to a customer service ( 800 number) and asked him a simple question: how to write a comment on the check, using online banking. He needs to know my SSN. I asked him to identified me with a different questions. He refused. When I asked him how I identified him when I'll complaint, he said his name is Eric. The worst customer service. Can you call it customer service?!?!
Webster Bank was a traditionally strong option for anyone living in CT (like me). I started banking with them as a young adult and over the years continued using their services as I got married, started a family, purchased a home, built a business, and so on. The bank's fees were always a little stiff, but fair if you considered the total value of their services. But after merging with Stirling Bank earlier this year, Webster has gone downhill very FAST. Terrible (I mean TERRIBLE) customer service. Poorly trained, incompetent, and marginally professional. Without going into detail, suffice to say they "misplaced" $11k. Not into another one of my accounts, either. I immediately called my local branch and left a message for the acting manager, but did not get a call back after two voicemails. I later called a very helpful regional manager who was very apologetic who sorted things out, but it still took over one week - $11K! The myriad of fees have grown significantly and many of them are flimsy at best. I discovered (3) $50 "inactivity" fees levied against (3) different accounts my wife and I had set up for our kids. Each account had less than $300 in it as we'd set up these basic 'passport savings' accounts so our kids could learn to save. And while paying my bills I noticed the first fee in my oldest son's account, then found the same fee in his younger brother's account, and another on in their sister's account. Worse yet, when I called the bank to understand the nature of this fee it took (3) representatives and 20 minutes to answer the question. Horrible. I DO NOT recommend Webster Bank.
Where do I begin? Ok, for starters the ATMs are constantly out of order. Staff is less than helpful. I am referring to the Seymour Branch and the Ansonia branch. I found the Shelton branch to be reliable but I don't always have the time to go there. That being said, I plan to end my 49 Year history with this bank that has been declining rapidly through the years.
I banked with Webster Bank before it even became Webster Bank when it was Sterling and even before when it was Astoria Federal Savings. So almost 20 years. I made a one time mistake and received an overdraft fee. I was not notified I had an overdraft fee. I asked for it to be removed since it was a 1st time mistake and the employee Olga Ostrovsky said we don't remove overdraft fees with a cold and unfriendly attitude. I asked if anyone above her can help me and she said the branch manager would be the one who would be able to remove it. I called customer service and asked for branch manager Sandra Guzman to call me. She never did. I then went to another Webster bank location and asked for the overdraft fee to be removed and again was told by a much nicer young female employee that the branch manager would have to be the one to remove it. That branch manager is Donna Thompson and she was supposed to call me but also never did. Also it's not just a one time $35 fee, every week you don't pay another $35 get added on so by the time I noticed, I had an overdraft it was over $100. I would recommend not banking with Webster Bank. I closed all my accounts with Webster Bank because of this. Online banks are the better option since they give higher interest rates. I would think one of the benefits of an in person bank would be better customer service but not with the management and employees at Webster Bank. This bank will be absorbed by another bank in the near future if they continue to operate this way.
Honestly, it may be a good bank, but they have a mortgage lender named Donna Thompson who treated me like crap from the bottom of her shoe. She was referred by my realtor so I can get pre-approval for a single house. She seemed nice the 1st few days, then afterward, she will respond with "I'll call you back I'm with a customer". Which I thought I was too, but I guess not. After a week of her unprofessionalism crap, I had to let her know about herself and block her. She's forgetful, unorganized, and wash up. Such a waste of my valuable vacation. Never again!!
