Difficult To Fund Account Initially, Overly Complicated Fraud Prevention

Opened a checking account with them, because I wanted to take advantage of a branch that is super close and the opening bonus. Was successful in opening the account, but the initial deposit did not go through and they subsequently suspended online access to my account. Had to go into the branch twice (first time they told me to call a number to re-activate; second time was because that number said I needed to go to branch again to ask banker vouch for my identity) to get the account re-activated. To set up an external transfer, you have to input your phone number and a debit card number/PIN (they should've mentioned that it has to be a BoA debit card). Overall impression was they made the security measures too complicated and over the top.

Bank Fraud

A bank of America ATM in Beaverton Oregon cancelled a transaction of $1000 applying restrictions to my card and rejecting it due to suspicious activity, however they took the amount off my account without dispensing money, I talked to the branch manager immediately after that and sent me to 1800 number from a different state, until today 2 months later the bank never returned my money, they just stated that there was no error, I don't understand why they took my money at first place when the withdrawal was cancelled, don't take the risk using this corp. keep your money yourself or go somewhere else. That's how they get rich, stealing the money from Americans, what a shame.

Many Years Using Their Credit Cards, Also A Checking Acct.

We have used BoA for many credit cards for years, starting out with bonus offers and 0% interest rate offers. Recently have simplified our finances and now have two credit cards with combined credit limit of $59,000. However I am philosophically preferring smaller banks and credit unions so am using the credit cards infrequently. ***Today I discovered that since my last automatic full payments in July and August, the bank had "forgotten" my outside checking account for automatic payments so that one automatic payment didn't happen, and the other one was about to not happen. One of the two accounts "remembered" an old checking account that had last paid BoA in 2009 and which I had closed in 2015. I paid both accounts by phone and customer service refunded a $1.68 interest charge, and moved to cancel an impending late fee. We had a BoA basic checking account for a long time but only needed it to occasionally order Euros to take on trips to Europe, got tired of maintaining $1500 balance to avoid monthly fees, so I closed it. It makes me nervous that their system "forgot" an autopay setup which had worked 5 months ago while "remembering" an account that had last been used 14 years ago - which makes me feel unsafe about their other storage of our data.

Non-Secure Bank Cash Withdrawals

BofA makes it way too easy for people to steal from your accounts. They have security cracks that allow scammers to order an ATM card and pin (which they can then steal from your mailbox). Then their policy is that one ATM card/pin be used to withdraw up to $5K cash per visit from multiple of your BofA accounts with no other ID. Scammers can hit multiple branches per day to steal a LOT of your money from BofA accounts. Unbelievable - but true. Then BofA takes up to 90 days to investigate before restoring your funds. And then require that you unfreeze your credit in order to open an account to replace the old compromised account(s). (Normal banks do not require any type of credit check for opening a deposit/debit account, but BofA does - perhaps to determine if they can sell you other products such as credit cards, loans, etc.). The credit union that I am now moving to requires a photo ID matching your face in order to withdraw any amount of cash, will call you to verify before withdrawing over $1K of cash and uses a deposit (not credit) account verification service for opening new checking accounts. I've been with BofA for decades but now would NOT recommend starting up anything new with them - certainly not with any significant amount of money exposed.

Took Forever To Open A CD; Cannot Recommend

I wanted to open a short-term CD and found a good rate at BOA. Thought they'd be a safe choice because they're a major bank and had a physical location just down the street. The process to open a CD was really bizarre; had to choose my occupation from a list of random specific titles ranging from "CEO" to "vending machine operator," but with nothing matching normal titles in the working world. Then got a message that my account was "under review" and that I would get an email when it was opened. BOA took my money by ACH the next day, but it was 11 days before they "received" it and could open the account. Meanwhile, I missed interest that entire time. It seems ludicrous that in 2023 it took this long to open a CD account through BOA, when I went to Marcus by Goldman Sachs and my account was opened and funded instantaneously and I started earning interest that very day. I regret that I tried to open this account at BOA and would have aborted if the money hadn't been completely locked up. The difference in the experience with Goldman Sachs was night and day. If you do open an account with Goldman Sachs, we both get a bonus percentage point on their online savings account if you open using my link: https://www.marcus.com/share/JEF-L73-SPAN With the bonus percentage point, the online savings account is about the same as a CD rate at the moment.

Bank Of America Des Plaines Branch, Discrimination !

Discrimination ! Branch Address : 1300 E Oakton ST, Des Plaines IL 60018 Time and Date : 12.40 pm- 1.40 pm Complaint : I waited my turn in the Counter line, while I was waiting my turn some bankers came and invited some customers who were waiting behind me ! I kept waiting for my turn, finally it was my turn and I told the banker Madam that " I would like to change my phone number " she said that "She can't do that at the counter so I need to sit on the sofa and wait for the next available banker for change my phone number. Two of the bankers were free but they didn't call me, after that the Mr Banker invited another customer who came after me. The another Mr Banker was free but he didn't invite me either. While I was sitting waiting on the sofa another gentleman entered the branch and said that he wanted to open an account. Madam Banker asked him " Do you have an appointment " and he said "NO" but Madam Banker showed him how to get an online appointment and find him a banker quickly, but I was still Waiting ! After a long wait Mr Banker invited me to his office. He said that he changed my phone number in the system. I checked my online account but it was still the OLD number. He said that "it takes around 30 DAYS to replace the new number in the system ! " I believe , The interior Security camera recorded everything that I told, I'm ready to go the court to prove my allegation ! I felt a deep discrimination ! No Discrimination in the USA !
