Their products are low or no cost with little to no required minimum opening deposits, but the big drawback is that their APYs are not very competitive unless certain requirements are met.

Axos Bank Product Offerings

Savings Accounts

A savings account is a deposit account at a bank or credit union that insures your principal up to the FDIC or NCUA limitations and generally pays a modest interest rate. Axos Bank offers a few different savings account options that offer great features but lack the competitive APY generally associated with an online-only bank.

Axos Bank FAQs

Our Take

Axos Bank might have been the first online-only bank, but it is very different from most, if not all, online banks today. It does offer a full range of banking products, but the yields it offers are some of the lowest amongst online-only banks and, in many cases, comparable to those of traditional banks. After careful review, it may be better to find a different online-only bank with competitive yields and similar features as Axos, such as little to no opening deposit requirements and no monthly service charges.

Methodology

Our editorial staff continually updates the information contained on our website. Our editorial staff has analyzed virtually all of the banks and credit unions that it follows, and it does weekly rate analysis for more than 250 prominent banks and credit unions. These institutions were chosen because they provide competitive APYs, low fees, and other factors we find important. These banks and credit unions often provide accounts that are available nationally. All of these banks are FDIC-insured, and all of these credit unions are NCUA-insured. Choosing an FDIC-insured bank or an NCUA-backed credit union assures that your money is protected as long as it stays within insurance limits and requirements.
