Worst Bank

For anyone that is looking for a bank I wouldn't recommend South State worst banking company.

Finally a bank I can love

I joined south state Bank (known as first federal at the time) a little over a year ago. After a bad relationship with a previous bank I was a little nervous about trusting another bank. From the very beginning their employees were very friendly, patient, and willing to help. They helped me pick the best account to suit me, which just happen to be their first free checking. So I was happy to have a checking account with no monthly fee. I never had any problems with them at all and when it came time to find a new car they provided me with a loan at only 1.99 Apr. It has been well over a year and still love this bank.

Debit Card Blocking

Great bank unless you like to use your debit cards.. I use my card and the next attempt it is blocked. Call the # provided and get told cards are reactivated after verifying the transaction. But then go to lunch with the family and get embarrassed because card is declined... Call back and asked did I use the card at this restaurant...yes I did and you declined it... We're sorry your card is really activated and good for use... Declined again.. And again and again... Call back did you attempt to charge at such and such... Yes I did and you declined it.. We're sorry cards are good now. No they aren't they still get declined..... Now I have to wait till Monday to go into a branch and get it straight cause it is a sat. And y'all aren't open so I am careless until Monday.... It is straight b.s. that every time the card is used I have to verify the purchase and card is blocked..

Security Lockout

We have been dealing with this bank for many years and had good experience in the past.As of Recently our account will be locked out without any warning . We have to call and wait sometimes as long as 25 min before someone answers . Staff at the local branch are very helpful

Still A Bad Bank

Just like Suntrust did when they became Truist, South State Bank has had horrible customer service and they haven't changed that even if purchased by another Bank. Been there 4 years and had enough. Corporate assistance is useless. Local branch on their 3rd Manager and still looking for permanent replacement. Corporate hold times are not tracked and had 50 calls on hold when I called. They could care less, unless you have a loan to give them more money in interest charges. Stay away.

POA...In A Time Of Crisis

For all of you that have placed a Power of Attorney in place...paid the money to to have an attorney draw up the POA for you so that on that day, that day everyone is dreading, and that day that everyone is sharing the sorrow of their loved on passing on or can no longer make decisions for themselves....let me warn you....DO NOT USE SOUTH STATE BANK TO HOLD ANY OF YOUR MONEY!! During the time of crisis for myself and people I care for, South State Bank was/is in no hurry help me resolve or approve the POA drawn in my name to handle money situations of a person i care for. I remember the day well...just 3 weeks ago on Feb. 20th. Speaking with a women who made copies of the standing POA. Now, March 14th, I sit by and wait now 15 mins for a call I was told would be returned in 5 mins. The bank required the attorney to redo the POA....4 times! Why on earth they wouldnt request all 4 changes to be done at the same time is beyond reason. Email after email and phone message after phone message, i still sit waiting for an answer. I urge you, if you are using South State hold you or your loved funds....GO TO ANOTHER BANK AND DO IT BEFORE ITS TO LATE AND YOU ARE STUCK AS I AM.

Horrible Online Banking

If I could give zero stars for the online banking I would. It is basically useless for a mortgage. You can't view statements online or escrow information. The only thing you can see are the mortgage payments that you have made. They are clearly not customer focused as it is 2023 and they still don't have online banking that is usable!? Stay away!

Bad Bank With Poor Customer Service

Unfortunately it has come to the point where I can no longer bank with this Branch(coral springs) or this particular banking institution any longer. Ever since they took over from CenterState their financial greed and inability to adapt and change to the current Financial landscape with regards to overdraft and assisting customers in this manner has become unbearable. Even compared to Bank of America which was known as the scourge of the banking institution when it comes to overdrafting their customers has remedied their overdraft charges. The latest issue that brought me to this was when I had several charges pending and I had a direct deposit from Wells Fargo occurring that evening they paid it however they proceeded to charge me over $140 in overdraft charges. This is Paramount to financial theft some might argue I should have had the money in my account. I would argue that the withdrawal from my bank account did not occur until the next day when the pending deposit from Wells Fargo we're hitting my bank at South State. I will be doing everything in my power to make sure that people understand this and that I encourage them to move away from South State Bank and hopefully take their business to a banking institution that is there for the customers not for their greed such as a bank like Capital One who has no overdraft fees.

HORRIBLE BANK

If I could, I would rate this bank a 0 star rating. Called to get my balance, a statement, and my account number to turn into the accountants and the lady at the Bartow, FL location was rude and refused to give me my account number after verifying all my info but would gladly give my balance and then laughed about it???? Steer clear of this bank. Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service.

Terrible Customer Service

I am refinancing my house and needed a mortgage statement to provide my current bank. I first attempted to print one online. I have three accounts with SouthState (mortgage, checking, boat loan) the only account I can print a statement for is my checking for some reason. So I called the bank. I requested a statement 2 weeks ago. I was told it would take 1-i3 business days to get it emailed to me. I was baffled. Isn’t this 2021? 3 days to email a statement. I reluctantly said ok. Statement never came. Called 3 days later. Same request. Same result. 14 days after my last two requests. Yesterday. I get on the phone get the same result. I lost it and said I am not getting off the phone until I get a statement. Provided the 5 security questions to the first customer care agent. Same result. Transfers me to the online banking department to “link” my other accounts so I could print my own statements. Unsuccessful. Transfers me to the loan department. So she said. She transferred me back to customer care. Same result. No statement. “Sir I am going to transfer you to the loan department” Me- I thought I was talking to the loan department. No sir. By this point I have been on the phone for 45 minutes. Yes 45 minutes. I have a conference call now starting. Keep in mind I am on my 4th different bank rep and have went thru the 5 security questions with each of these incompetent people to email a bank statement in 2021 where we can get Amazon to drop off an order with a drone to our front door. We can pickup our groceries the same day without getting out of our car. Not at SouthState. Long story short. The loan representative “promises” to have my statements emailed to me in the next 20 minutes. Fast forward 12 hours later. No email. I didn’t expect any different. I hope some reads this review before they pick this bank. We live in a world full of choices. Choose accordingly. I will be paying off every account I have with this comedy of a financial institution. It doesn’t make financial sense to my portfolio. I should reserve my cash, but that is how much distain I have for this bank. I have accounts with first citizens and bank of travelers rest. I would strongly suggest you check them out.

Go With Midflorida Up The Street

Name changed on building & fees started on a "free checking" account I had for 11 years with Center State. Customer service became non-existent. Horrible bank. Use MidFlorida instead...free means actually free.
