Have banked with Flagstar for 25-30 years. Started when the CD rates were high. Then I took some of the townships money there for CD's. I still have one CD there and a checking and savings account. Rates are extremely low now but the service is great. They were wonderful helping with accounts after my mother passed with her IRA and when husband passed and helped me set up an account for the boys to inherit before his death. Though I thought I had another year to do this was so thankful I did it when I did. One of the most helpful, and friendly banks I have every belonged to. Was shocked to hear all the negative remarks. Maybe it is the city I live in that makes the difference. Not sure why all of the negative remarks but people at Flagstar are always helpful. I rarely go it except to use the ATM for deposits but they still address me by name. AMAZING
This bank has little to offer and should be avoided. I only wanted to get the cash bonus offer for opening an account. After getting the bonus and wishing to transfer money to a higher interest yielding account, I discovered that there is a "daily" transfer limit of $2000 and a monthly limit of $5000. This "daily" limit is misleading, because one cannot request another transfer until each transfer has been processed, which takes at least 3 days. So transferring $5000 takes at least 9 days, and over $5000 could take up to a month. Also there are many fees. For example, a maintenance fee for a checking account unless an average daily balance is over $1000, and even maintenance fees for savings accounts. The 0.01% interest rate on these accounts is ridiculously low. Watch out for many other fees that may pertain to your situation. I am in the lengthy process of transferring money out of Flagstar to another bank and will then cancel my Flagstar accounts. Good luck to anyone who feels Flagstar is best.
I refinanced in December, and discovered that my new mortgage was going to be through Flagstar Bank. When I read the reviews I almost had a heart attack. I am very involved with my mortgage, have spreadsheets showing my payments, make multiple extra payments throughout the month, etc. I was in a panic when I read the reviews, and contacted my bank and almost had them cancel the refinance, because there is no way I could do business with a bank that had horrible reviews. My bank reassured me that a lot of their employees had their mortgage through Flagstar, and they were very happy with them. They were able to talk me into going through with my refinance. It has been 3 months now, and I am extremely happy with Flagstar Bank. The online options that I have to look at my mortgage are the best that I have seen. It is very easy to make extra payments as often as I want online. I had a question about my mortgage, and was hesistant to call Flagstar Bank (because of the horrible reviews). I was at work, and knew that I didn't have 45 minutes to an hour to sit on the phone and wait. Once again, I was surprised! I was on hold for less than 2 minutes, and the customer service rep was very nice, knew exactly what he was talking about, and was able to explain things to me. I immediately chatted my husband and said, "I had a WONDERFUL experience with Flagstar!" As for right now, I would have to give Flagstar 5 stars, and that is saying something, because 90% of the time I am NEVER satisfied with companies and their customer service. Way to go Flagstar!
Flagstar is a bank that is available if you live in the state of Michigan. There are no fees for making a checking account, and the minimum deposit is only 100 dollars if I remember correctly. The branch I went to a few years back had very friendly staff and they helped me get my account set up in just a few minutes. I was able to use my account easily because it was located near my home, and there's online banking and bill payment so I usually wouldn't even have to go to the branch itself most of the time. The bank doesn't surprise you with hidden fees or anything, and they are very willing to help you if there's an issue with your account. I think the only thing lacking is maybe the online banking is lacking in some newer features compared to national banks, but it's still very good.
I can't seem to connect with a customer service agent to save my life. I contacted them 3 separate times and was disconnected 3 times. After trying their online chat, that was the only way to connect with them. There is no information on rates on their website either. I just switched due to their great HYSA rate but I don't think it's worth the lack of customer service they provide.
This bank is very bad at online systems. I have had to call customer service numerous times because the software is poorly written and account management doesn't work. Today I finally decided to give up on banking with them and tried to transfer my checking account balance. The system broke and I have to wait up to 48 hours to get my money. If you read this post, don't do it... do not go to this bank - you will regret it, just like me. There loan process was so tedious - coming back asking for more and more paperwork, I almost nixed the HELOC I was requesting... such a dumb mistake - all the signs were there that the bank would jerk me around, and the did. They jacked up they jacked up the interest rate - so I called to close it and they charged all kinds of fees. Buyer beware, they probably make all there money on fees and not actually being a real bank lending money and getting repayment.
We have been trying to refinance for months and we kept getting conflicting information about what FG needed from us to process our application - we went through the whole thing twice. I posted a BBB complaint and got a number to call which was just a generic CS number, and no one ever called us back. Now they denied our refinance application and send a debt collector to our door on a Saturday - we're refinancing with someone else, and we've been on the mortgage deferral program, so we owe them nothing.
Deceitful management at FlagStar Bank, horrendous customer support and they don't even know how to keep a ledger balanced. Avoid this bank at all costs or you will regret it. When they purchased my mortgage the paperwork was screwed up (which they admitted to me in writing as being their fault) and they ended up sending me to collections despite the fact that I have paid in full each month, and have provided the receipts to prove it. Not only that, for one of the payments they double charged me and they couldn't send the extra money back. Dozens of hours on the phone later, and having to take two full days of leave from work I am no closer to a resolution. When you call these people on they phone they pay excellent lip service to you, and even give a case number, but when you call back they deny ever receiving a call. When they promise to send the case to an internal investigator to get to the bottom of it, they fail to follow through and tell you that no progress has been made. Again they promise to do something about it, and again they sit on their thumbs and ignore the case. Now I am forced to make extra full payments on my mortgage above what they are owed just to satisfy them and keep a roof over my head while this process trudges on for what will likely be years at the rate they are going. I'm a nurse and work in a nursing home that was hit hard by COVID-19 and the time I have had to spend on this only increases the burden on my my fellow nurses. I do not believe in coincidences. who knows how many other people they are doing this to? Don't take the chance that it will happen to you too.
November 24th 2020 bank stopped allowing mortgage payment to be made from business accounts. This is a mortgage that was purchased by Flagstar bank. It is listed as a business loan and it shows that my LLC owns the property. It was very short notice and leads me to believe that the bank was probably kicked off of the transfer system due to banking irregularities. I would not have any funds in this bank due to this issue. I would hate to have the bank close and have to wait until the FDIC payed me.
These people make the crooks who caused the financial crisis look like choir boys. They buy up mortgages then prevent you from being be to pay them so they can put you in collections and force refinance. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE.
I deposited a $200 check not know they wouldn't deposited the check due my husband name was on the check as well as my own. I called the bank as soon as I noticed it. I was told they would send my check back. They sent me a copy of my check. Making so no one else would cash my check. I called flagstar for over a month. I was told you would receive a call back. Every time I called in, I was told a new lie. Never had that problem when I was with Wells Fargo.
