Excellent.

Recently had a problem with another bank, transferring funds AWAY FROM CIBC. Customer service was extremely helpful even though CIBC did nothing wrong, was losing deposits, but I needed protection from "Plaid." I have always gotten direct and accurate answers from customer services here, the computer interfaces work well, and when the rates are very favorable have deposited smoothly into here. Only problem was a few years ago when the security protocols from an outside tech processor glitched, and I got sent to another bank on the ACH instead--they fixed this rare technical slip up very rapidly. Recommended.

Beneficiary Process Is Archaic

I was going to replace Barclay savings account with CIBC until I looked at the website FAQ and saw that CIBC has a ridiculous beneficiary addition process. The bank expects you to complete this paper form and send the beneficiary name and social security number through the snail mail as if that is any great security. If this cheapskate bank cannot create a secure message system in the online website to send personal information then forget it! What a dark age set-up. I have not used snail mail in years for bank communications. Still searching for a Barclays replacement but at least the beneficiary info is part of the online account.

CIBC Is A++++

I’ve been using CIBC savings for a couple years. They have good interest rates and when I make a withdrawal it is deposited into my checking account the next business day. Other banks took 5 days. Online customer service usually responds in a day.

Something To Know...CD Maturity Date

I am a satisfied long-term customer of CIBC. Regarding certificates of deposit (CD), on the maturity date the CD will renew for the same term (you have 10 days from maturity to notify them if you do not want to renew) at the previous interest rate unless you contact CIBC. For example, on April 18, 2023, if the maturing 12-month CD was at 1.25 APY, it will renew at this rate unless you contact CIBC. It's a good idea to call on the maturity date (not before). They will offer the rate for new business (5.02 APY for a 12-month CD as of April 18, 2023) but again, only if you ask. Lakitha, the customer service representative, was personable and helpful. I've never experienced a wait of more than a couple of minutes to speak to a representative.

Quickly Becoming One Of My Favorite Hub Banks

I opened my CIBC Agility savings in summer of 2020 at the height of the pandemic when they offered a $400 sign on bonus. I opened the account only for the bonus and did not have high expectations for the account. The rates throughout the pandemic were above average, but not top tier and I kept low amounts in the account throughout that time. Since the rates have began to rise in 2022 I have been pleased with their willingness to frequently raise their rates and stay competitive. Further more, I am very pleased that they allow 20 linked accounts via ACH, which is almost unheard of these days. I have had no holds or transfer problems at all with this bank like I have constantly had with Ally, Macrus, Syncrony and others. There are only a few minor things I am not a fan of, one being the $125K daily transfer limit and $250K Monthly limit. However it is 250K in/250K out, so the monthly movement limit is 500K. They also just implemented a total of 500K maximum balance on the Agility account, but if you have above that before Sept 28th, you are grandfathered in until your balance drops below $500K for the first time, then it applies to you also. These are minor inconveniences however, still pretty generous transfer limits compared to many others. Although they do not pay the absolute highest rate out there, the combination of 20+ ACH links, acceptably high transfer limits and quick, no-nonsense transfers gives this bank an A+ in my book, and that is a rare occurrence with maybe only Citizens Access being tied for 1st place in my eyes (if they could keep their rates up with CIBC).

Opening Account

Today opened an account in branch this morning ,a 13 month 5.52 % APY , things went like most other banks nothing special you only need a ss card and a state id card to open an account.. The only thing I didn't care for was they did a hard pull on your credit and this is the most imporant part if your credit is frozen they will not allow you to open an account with them so be aware of this if you decide to open an account there that your credit must not be frozen .....

Need More Reviews

While shopping for a bank I came across this one recommended in some comment sections for savings, hub etc. Not alot of reviews here so I went to trust pilot dot com for cibc and saw over 864 Check out those comments and the agility requirements which are not federal requirements but made up bank policies such as tapping into your credit report, specific ids and other info etc. This is in regard to savings and cd only not lines of credit credit cards checking or any such items you are giving them money not the reverse. Research first and carefully check their website you'll be glad you did.

Do Not Try To Put IRA Money In CD At CIBC Despite Attractive Rate

I tried to open an IRA acct at a branch today. (IRAs must be opened at branch.) What a disaster!!! No one seemed to know exactly how to do it. I sat there for 1- 1/2 hours waiting for them to do the paperwork. When I finally got to review the paperwork they prepared after I waited 1- 1/2 hrs, there were numerous errors in basic information (such as my SS # input where the acct number should have been; street address wrong). I had filled in all the info on a form for them when I first arrived at the branch., When it became clear I would have to wait at least another half hour for all the errors to be corrected, I told CIBC to forget it - that I would go to another institution. Don't waste your time. Also, they charge you $35 for your incoming IRA transfer. I have never heard of that before.

Terrible

They close your account out of the blue. When I finally got to someone after a number of phone calls to ask why, they interrogated me about the "source of my money". Like excuse me? What money? My mere savings that were transferred from my previous account and parked in this account for higher interest? Nobody has extorted such information. Not only it's not their business, but what does it even mean? They expect to get a bio of your lifetime of saving? They didn't just ask about one transaction, they harassed me for information about the history of my savings in other accounts! Their kind will do nothing honest with intrusive info they extort from you. No honest bank just harasses you for no reason and extorts you by closing your account. And it wasn't even an unusual amount of savings.

Threaten To Sue You If You Leave Review About Their Shady Practices

Unbelievable! I had a horrible experience with this bank, and when I took it to the supervisor (her name started with K/C I believe) she threatened me not to leave my review warning "be careful" what you post online! WOW! I told her I'm telling the truth about the unacceptable practices of the bank, and she still threatened that they still can sue me for leaving my review! HUHHH
