spoke to Andrea today, (lovely person, btw) who advised that this account is not available nationwide.
I had this local bank when I lived in Wisconsin. I ended up getting transfered out of state and ended up having to move to a bigger bank because I wanted to have something that I could go to right away. Wow how I miss my original bank. First thing is my local bank almost had no fee's when it came to setting up accounts or checks which the big bank does. Also there have been a few times when I have had to call customer service and the local bank someone would pick up from one of the branch's and was super helpful. With the big bank if I call in I keep getting routed all over the place and end up spending 45 minutes on a simple 5 minute issue. Also every time I now go into my big bank they are always trying to sell me on getting credit cards which I do not want. My local bank knew me and knew what my interests where and how I wish I could go back to them. Comment 2 votes | Report Post
Associated bank is a hometown bank with a hometown feel to it. You can get the logo of the Brewers or the Packers on your debit card. I chose the Brewers because I'm a bit "Packered" to death here in Green Bay. I think there are some kind of sports perks with the cards, but I 'm not interested in them. I chose it because I could get free checking with direct deposit and because they had a branch very near my house. It's handy to have an actual teller close at hand who can do things for me simply such as cash a check or make a deposit. It's never crowded and the tellers are always friendly. They also have a branch in a super market I shop frequently, so that's super handy. They only thing I have ever disliked is the marketers at the supermarket branch were once overly aggressive in approaching shoppers. Several people complained to the store management and put a stop to it so that was the end of that problem. I don't use them for short-term savings because I get better rates online, but I love having them for day-to-day banking needs.
I applied for an account online and my account was "under review" for over 5 weeks. I called several times and they could never tell me why it was under review or how long that review would take. Finally I got a letter in the mail saying my account was closed due to suspicious activity but all I did was open the account, deposit money and set up a direct deposit. I'm sure they just wanted to close my account to avoid paying a sign up bonus they were offering. What a terrible bank! Avoid at all costs!
After 37 years as a good customer, Associated Bank has informed my wife and me that it is unilaterally closing my accounts, along with those of my son, daughter and grandson. The bank has been unwilling to provided any explanation for why it is doing this. We have done nothing fraudulent; we have simply been normal banking customers for 37 years. We have a savings account with a large balance (mid six-figures) for many years. I believe that ordinary business practices, along with common decency, would suggest that any reputable organization would provide an explanation to a long time customer for ending a long time relationship. I have tried to speak with customer relations personnel several times to no avail. TERRIBLE BANK!
